Very true but this is also used in some weapon techniques to keep balance. This stance does alot of good, but its not made for hand to hand combat on the streets.

idiots, the ma bo (horse stance) is an exercise, not really a proper fighting stance. the horse stance is an endurance training, to strengthen the leg muscles. this is to help movement during training of martial arts, so your movements are more accurate and flowing. also to keep you legs grounded like roots to the floor, to prevent your opponent from sweeping you or knocking you down. furthermore develops enormous power to your legs and your kicks. this exercise also trains the mental mind.

The longest ive seen someone stand in horse stance is when striking downward at a low target. Usually you cant see it cuz they move too fast and flow in and out

standing still facing your enemy in a horse stance is ineffective,I agree. However flowing in and out of horse stance is the key to the power of kung fu. standing in a side profile you can shuffle in and out of range of attack. When u are in horse stance you center your gravity with your feet firmly planted, giving you increased balance, hit absorption and striking power.

If you’re easily tripped or “immobile” it’s because you’re doing it wrong. Your groin isn’t exposed unless you’re standing in the horse stance and squaring your hips to your opponent, which is…wrong.
The horse stance is an excellent neutral, transitional position, and it’s also very strong. Besides, you don’t have to do it low. Standing up with your knees slightly bent and your weight distributed correctly is a horse stance, too. It can be low or high, depending on what you need.

The whole purpose to make your legs stronger and more powerful in ways most people don’t! in a fight you are not going to simply go into a horse stance. People like you need an education!!!!!

You can use it in concrete movements of luxation of the legs, pushing down the kneel of your oponent with your bottom, but it’s only an anecdotal use. Ma bo is for training legs and internal muscles.

You’re not supposed to use horse stance in a fight, only for demonstrational purposes. How would being in horse stance help you? You can easily be tripped and you’re basically making yourself into an immobile sheet that can easily be pushed. Also, you can’t kick if you see an opening and your groin is exposed and being kicked there would be hard to block, and doing so would expose your torso. I heard him say it is a training stance, but he didn’t say it wasnt for fighting.

not necessarily; southern focuses on being rooted and northern focuses on moving around. But with moving around and staying still, the feet and hands would be affected so u may have a point.
